Tannum’s Millennium Esplanade and Canoe Point with its wetlands area reflect the family focus which gives the area such a ‘feel-good’ atmosphere, wherever you go. It is a great environment for kids, with lots to do and explore.

c2

Around the house.
Children can safely play on the verandah which is fully shaded and has balustrades all around. The verandah exit gate can be closed for safety. The backyard is fenced and secure.  It has a lockable gate to stop little ones from straying onto the road.  There is a lovely grassy area large enough to kick a ball and a weatherproof concreted area

The rumpus room makes a good play room or children’s retreat. Board games, books, toys, drawing stuff etc are provided and there is a table and chairs for activities like drawing, reading or games.

Beaches
The beaches offer safe swimming. Being sheltered by the reef and the islands, the surf is relatively moderate. The main beach, opposite the Life Savers Club (300 m), is patrolled on summer weekends and school holidays.

Play grounds
Children’s play areas are located on the Millennium Esplanade and at Canoe Point. The Millennium Esplanade and Canoe Point are recreation areas with first class facilities, toilets, and showers. There are lots of picnic shelters with free BBQ’s and plenty of beach access points.

c6

Bray Park at Boyne Island has a skate park and large grassy areas, a little further along is Wyndham Park which has a lovely playground.

Ducks and Kangaroos
Tannum Wetland Park at Canoe Point features a large pond with ducks and other water birds and is surrounded by BBQ shelters with free gas barbeques. Late in the afternoon, wallabies and kangaroos come out of hiding to graze. They are used to people and will ignore you as you walk past them, but if you stop they will move on.

Wild Cattle Creek
This is a brilliant spot for children and for adults, particularly at low tide when there are lots of small pools and shallows for wading and exploring. It is a fantastic playground. At low tide one can walk endlessly along the sandy beds, watch water birds  foraging and little soldier crabs scurrying out of the way, or cross over to the island and enjoy its long empty ocean beach. The scenery is stunning but make sure you bring plenty of sunscreen and keep an eye on the tide!

There are lots of nice grassy areas along Millennium Esplanade. Kick a ball or have a game of cricket with the family. Plenty of free BBQ facilities. Just a hop and a skip.... and you are on the beach. All this just at the doorstep of the Tannum Sands Beach House!

Your four legged friends deserve a holiday too, so why not bring them with you? Well behaved pets are welcome to stay with you at the Beach House - subject to conditions and prior approval. The backyard is fully fenced and there is a roofed area providing shade and shelter.

There are lots of areas to walk, swim and explore with the whole family and your pet. Wild Cattle Creek is a true paradise for people and dogs alike, particularly at low tide with plenty of rock-pools, sandbanks and mud-flats to explore.

Beaches are another great place to take your pet for an adventure. There are beautiful swimming beaches (on either side of Main Beach) were your dog is welcome to have fun and meet other four-legged friends.

Wild Cattle Creek to the south and Canoe Point  to the north of Main Beach are both off-leash beach areas.

Please bring your pets’ own bowls and bedding so that they have something familiar to keep them company at night.

Wild Cattle Creek is a short stroll away.  It is not really a creek but a sandy tidal inlet separating Wild Cattle Island from the mainland. It is a brilliant spot for children as well as adults.

At low tide there are lots of small pools and shallows for wading and exploring, and you can walk endlessly along the sandy beds, or cross over to the island and enjoy its long ocean beach, which more often than not you’ll have to yourself!

The wonderful Millennium Esplanade runs from Wild Cattle Creek right along the main beach. It has large grassy areas, picnic shelters, free gas barbecues and a children’s playground. Canoe Point is a little further along, it is a bushland reserve with picnic shelters, wood fired barbecues, nature trails and easy access to the beach. There are many other activities to enjoy such as surf sports, tennis, golf, kayaking, and cycling.

Nearby Boyne Island has a skate park located at Bray Park, perfect for kids. You can also launch your boat from Bray Park and head out to the Pacific Ocean and Great Barrier Reef for some serious fishing. Alternatively, there are a number of nearby boat ramps and local fishing spots where you are sure to catch a few fish.

There is an extensive network of walking and cycling paths along the beach and river-front area of Tannum and Boyne.

The Beach House provides internet access as an option, and free internet use is available by appointment at the library in Boyne Island.
